Otidea bufonia

FRUIT BODY: 1 - 8cm irregular cup shaped fruiting body with a noticeable split down one side. Inner surface is pale to tawny brown with the outer surface minutely downy to scurfy and lighter or darker in colour but almost always contrasting. The upper edge of the cup is wavy and occasionally toothed. If located in dark woodland this isn't the easiest species to locate. GILLS/PORES: N/A. FLESH: Brittle and thin with no distinct aroma. SPORES: Whitish-cream, elliptic to fusiform with two oil drops usually present. HABITAT: In groups in woods, lawns or found along roadsides. SEASON: Infrequent. Late summer to autumn. EDIBILITY: Inedible.
